Dr. John Powers
DENTIST
Dr. Powers has been practicing dentistry for more than 40 years. After graduating from
the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, receiving his dental degree in 1980. After a general practice dental residency, Dr. Powers began practicing in Greenbelt, Maryland in 1981. He was Chairman of the Dental Department of a Washington, D.C. Area Trauma
Hospital for more than a decade. There he was involved in training dental residents that graduated from dental schools across the United States.
Currently, he is a member of the Deans’s Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Dr. Powers is an active member of the American Academy of Oral and Systemic Health, Oral Cancer Foundation, Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Society, Southern Maryland Dental Society and BiCounty dental study club. He was also voted as a “Best Dentist” by Washingtonian Magazine.
Patients love Dr. Powers’ empathetic and compassionate dental care. In addition, they appreciate his desire to expand and advance his dental expertise. He frequently attends courses on Oral-Systemic Health, Laser Dentistry, Smile Design, Invisalign, Ultimate Occlusion and Oral Cancer detection and prevention. Thus, he’s able to empower his patients with an array of treatment options.
Dr. Powers and his wife truly enjoyed raising their two children who are both dentists. Michael is an orthodontist and Linda is in a residency to become an orthodontist. He has many varied hobbies, including tennis, bicycling, digital photography, computers, and a good book. He has also received his third-degree black belt in Taekwondo.

Barbara
Registered Dental Hygienist
Barbara has been a practicing dental hygienist for 36 years. She started her career in dentistry as a certified dental assistant and after several years decided to further her education and attended Allegany Community College where she earned her dental hygiene degree.
Barbara and Dr. Powers have been working together over 26 years. She prides herself with providing quality individualized oral health care to each of her patients, all with a gentle touch. Currently, Barbara works two Fridays a month and when needed to provide support for others in the practice.
Barbara has been married to her husband for 32 years. She loves playing tennis, yoga, and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, grand puppy, and two other sons.

Suzanne
Registered Dental Hygienist
Suzanne joined Dr. Powers’ team in 2018. She began working in the dental field as a business administrator while attending UMBC. She then continued her dental education at HCC and graduated with a degree in Dental Hygiene where she was recognized with the Gold Scaler Award. Suzanne has experience working in the fields of general, pediatric, and periodontal dentistry.
As a Dental Hygienist, her goal is to provide the best quality care for her patients and make each and every appointment as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. She works with her patients to prevent disease and promote dental health to enhance and maintain overall health. She prides herself on being a lifelong learner and staying up on the latest information.
When she is out of the office, Suzanne enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, working out, cooking, and reading.

Martha
Registered Dental Hygienist
Martha began her career in dentistry as a certified dental assistant, and continued to assist while studying Psychology at UMBC. She decided to further her dental education at Fortis College, where she earned her degree in Dental Hygiene. Martha graduated from hygiene school with honors and received the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Award.
As a dental hygienist, Martha hopes to enhance each patient’s dental experience by providing quality individualized care. She believes in the importance of building a relationship based on trust, honesty, dignity, and compassion with each patient.
Martha strives to educate patients in maintaining optimal oral health and providing patients with the knowledge necessary to prevent oral disease. During her spare time, Martha loves spending time with her family. She enjoys playing guitar, cooking, traveling, volunteering, and spending time in nature.

Debbie
Certified Dental Assistant
Deb, a certified dental assistant, has been working with Dr. Powers for 27 years of her 35-year dental career. She has a great wealth of dental information to draw on. Deb is a true caregiver, in every sense of the word. Being very patient-oriented, she ensures that all of our patients are comfortable and given the best care available. She takes great pride in what she does. Deb is a native Marylander. She is married with 4 grown children. Deb enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, long walks, and caring for others. Above all, she lovers her 11 grandchildren, including her set of twins.

Kai
Patient Coordinator
Kai, our patient care coordinator, began working with us in 2020. She is the niece to one of our former assistants, Marlene. Kai first started as a dental assistant with us and gained clinical knowledge and experience. She then wanted to expand her role into the administrative side of dentistry, so she took on the role as our patient care coordinator.
As our patient care coordinator, Kai manages the appointments on the schedule, communicates with patients about their dental needs, and request records, info, progress notes, etc., all while maintaining patient confidentiality and quality care. She also loves hearing stories as patients check out with her!
Kai loves cats, she has 3 at home. Outside the office, Kai likes to try new and different foods, learn new things, and spend time with loved ones. She was born in the Philippines, and enjoys working out, and being out with her friends.

Jessica
Financial Coordinator
She is our friendly neighbor’s Financial Coordinator! Jess has been in dentistry for over seven years. She worked in various specialties including Oral Surgery and General Practice. She enjoys working in dentistry because of the wonderful patients she gets to meet.
Her top priority is to help patients get the care they need and help them along their smile journey. She enjoys the business and financial aspects and focuses on helping patients fit their treatment into their lives.
Jess enjoys a positive work environment and interacting with everyone’s friendly smiles.
She grew up in Prince George’s County, MD. In her free time, Jess enjoys spending time with her two kids, reading self-growth books, studying, learning new things, traveling, and trying new food. She is currently also working on certification and trying to get her foot into the IT world.
