When Should I Get A Root Canal?

Common symptoms of an infection on the pulp or roots of your tooth include the following:

  • Pain when chewing
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Darkening of a tooth
  • Swelling of the gums
  • A persistent or recurring pimple on the gums

All of these symptoms are very uncomfortable and can keep many patients from being able to eat properly. The best approach to these symptoms is to see your dentist as soon as possible.

This is because if we are able to detect the issue early, we can address the pain without having to perform a root canal.

It may be due to a lodged particle causing inflammation on the gums, or an exposed area of the tooth that requires a filling and crown placement.

What happens if I wait it out?

While you certainly have the choice to wait it out, it would not be recommended as the situation could develop further into a larger issue.

Similar to what would happen to your car if you neglect to take it to an auto shop, the same is for your tooth. The sooner you get it addressed, the less likelihood of a greater problem to be addressed.
