What is a Veneer?

Dental Veneers: What is it?

Dental veneers or porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-colored material that is applied that can cover the front surface of a tooth. A dental veneer is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a person’s smile.

How are they used?

There are common uses for dental veneers. These include the following:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Worn-down teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Gaping teeth

How Long Do They Last?

Veneers can last somewhere between 7 to 15 years. Veneers should be replaced, especially if there are damages to the tooth as it is irreversible.

Advantages to Dental Veneers

Dental veneers look very much like natural teeth. Gum tissue tolerates veneer better than other forms of material. A porcelain veneer is not likely to get any stains from foods.

Of course, there are some disadvantages to veneers. It’s irreversible and if you’re looking to whiten your teeth, the color on the veneer will not change.
