How Can I Close The Gap Between My Teeth?

From time to time, I get patients that come to my office and want to fix the gap between their teeth. The issue is they want to do it WITHOUT the use of metal braces. Braces can be costly and require monthly checkups and maintenance.

With Dr. John Powers and staff, one of the Top Maryland Family Dentists Check out the rest of the services offered, some will even be mentioned below!

Here are 3 ways you can close the gap between your teeth WITHOUT Braces

1. Bonding

The biggest advantage to bonding is that anesthesia isn’t needed to numb the gums of the patient since there is no pain at all. This process is one of the most popular because patients don’t have to worry about pain during or after the procedure. The procedures of bonding include a series in which we use a composite resin filling material that adheres to the teeth to close the space. This works well especially when the space is fairly small. The process basically roughens the surfaces of the teeth to create more surface area for the adhesion of the bonding material. This procedure tends to take up to an hour but the time length can depend on the number of spaces that need closed.

If done correctly the results look natural and are long-lasting. If the gap is too big for bonding a different cosmetic technique must be used.

2. Veneers

Veneers material consist of porcelain, a material much stronger than can last longer. Dr. Powers offer veneer treatment and other dental services. Veneers do not chip, stain, and do not discolor over time. Within about two visits you’ll be able to close the gap in your teeth with veneers.

3. Invisalign

Invisalign is a very popular alternative to braces. It uses a clear plastic tray that is made to move your teeth and straighten them out. These plastic trays are very similar to retainers that are given to patients post braces. One of the advantages of Invisalign is that they are more comfortable than braces and most people can’t tell someone is wearing them due to the clear color. Another advantage is that nothing needs to be replaced with Invisalign, unlike veneers you are using the teeth that are already in your mouth. The only downside to Invisalign compared to veneers is that the process for the teeth to straighten averages around 10 months. Dr. Powers and staff are more than happy to assist you in deciding between veneers or Invisalign
